Episode 41 - The Wrath of Rebecca
Having learned that Pegasus has released the three souls that he had help captive, Yugi and his friends head back to the duelling arena where they find Mokuba just waking up. Although dazed, Mokuba is determined to head off in search of Kaiba immediately, refusing to leave the island until he has found his big brother.
As the group head off to begin searching for Kaiba, Croquet arrives on Pegasus's behalf to give Yugi the prizes that he has won. Yugi has already received the prize of the three released souls, but Croquet still needs to hand over the cheque for the prize money. As Yugi takes the cheque, he gives it to Joey, keeping his promise that Joey can use the money to save his sister Serenity's eyesight. Croquet also presents Yugi with a special card designed by Pegasus especially for the tournament, The Ties of Friendship, and declares that Yugi Moto is now the King of Games.
As the group scours the castle for Kaiba, they begin to lose hope in ever finding him as they reach the castle gates. However just as they begin to consider giving up, Kaiba appears from the other side of the gates. Delighted to see his big brother safe and sound, Mokuba rushes into Kaiba's arms and the two share their gratitude at being back together once more. As Kaiba and Mokuba head off to Kaiba's helicopter, Kaiba thanks Yugi for rescuing both him and his younger brother and promises that one day the two of them will face each other in a real duel as the last one they faced against each other was anything but honourable.
As the two brothers leave, Yugi and the spirit of his Millennium Puzzle talk with each other, and the spirit explains that although he has had many names, Yugi can call him Yami. Realising that they have no way to get off of the island, the gang rush to catch up with Kaiba to ask for a lift home. However as the others rush ahead excited at the thought of going home, Bakura is more excited at what is to come. While Yugi has won the championship title and Joey the prize money, Bakura has claimed the real prize, Pegasus's Millennium Eye, and is determined to someday claim Yugi's Millennium Puzzle as well.
Back home Yugi's grandpa is waking from his long comatose state without a soul. As Yugi, Joey, Téa and Tristan meet him at the hospital, he is pleased to hear of Yugi's progress and surprised to learn how well Joey did considering the amateur he was when he left for the tournament. However as the group arrive at the Game Shop they find a young girl waiting for them. The girl explains that her name is Rebecca and that Yugi's grandpa, Solomon Moto, has stolen a card from her.
As Yugi and his friends try to calm down the young girl, Rebecca demands that Solomon give her back the Blue-Eyes White Dragon that he stole from her. As Téa tries to explain that there is a small problem with that request, Rebecca continues to demand the card, explaining that it belongs to a true champion such as herself. Joey is amused by the fact that an 8-year old considers herself to be a champion of Duel Monsters, and the number one duellist in America at that, but Yugi explains that he read about Rebecca in a newspaper before they left for the tournament and that she was hailed as a prodigy of the card game.
Rebecca continues to demand the Blue-Eyes back, ignoring any attempts by Yugi and the others to explain what happened to it so Solomon asks her why she believes the card belongs to her anyway. Rebecca explains that her grandfather used to own one of the four Blue-Eyes White Dragon cards and now it is gone. Kaiba has three of them and Solomon Moto has the fourth, so she is determined that he must have stolen the card. Rebecca suggests that she duel Solomon for it, but Yugi tries to explain that his grandpa has just been released from the hospital. However Rebecca is still insistent and challenges Yugi's grandpa to duel her for the card.
Over at Kaibaland, Mokuba allows the group to use one of their duelling arenas because, even though they are fully booked for the next three months, he and Seto owe Yugi their lives. As the group arrives at the duelling arena, Yugi refuses to let his grandpa battle when he has only just been released from the hospital and so volunteers to duel in his grandpa's place. Rebecca is pleased by the proposition, declaring that the match will be a clash of two titans between the top duellist in America and the King of Games. Before the match begins, Rebecca gives Solomon Moto one more chance to return the Blue-Eyes card that he stole, but he refuses, still confused as to why Rebecca believes that the card belongs to her.
On her first turn, Rebecca plays the Witch of the Black Forest, an unusual starting card that seems familiar to Yugi's grandpa. Yugi plays the Celtic Guardian and easily destroys the witch, reducing Rebecca's life points to 1700, however Rebecca is not too upset as sending the Witch to the graveyard allows her to search her deck for a monster with up to 1500 attack points.
For her next turn Rebecca plays Sangan, but Yugi's Celtic Guardian easily destroys this card as well, reducing her life points to 1300. However like the Witch of the Black Forest, Sangan's destruction also allows Rebecca to search her deck for a monster card. Watching from the sidelines, Yugi's friends are unsure about Rebecca's unusual strategy, however Solomon Moto seems to recognise Rebecca's strategy as one he has seen in a previous duel.
As her third turn begins, Rebecca begins to act more seriously as she plays Tribute to the Doomed, allowing her to destroy Yugi's Celtic Guardian. She then plays one monster face down in defence mode and ends her turn. Worried by the sudden change in attitude, Téa warns Yugi that Rebecca seems to be playing differently now, however Yugi is still confident that he can defeat her.
Playing the Summoned Skull Yugi attacks Rebecca's defence monster, confident that the monster will have less than 2500 defence points. However as Yugi's life points fall to 1500, Rebecca reveals that her monster was the Millennium Shield, with an awesome 3000 defence points. As Rebecca reveals the card, Yugi's grandfather realises that he has himself played the exact same duel that Yugi and Rebecca are playing against a friend of his, Professor Arthur Hawkins.
To end her turn, Rebecca equips her Shield with the Ring of Magnetism, reducing its defence points to 2500. Uneasy as to what powers the Ring of Magnetism holds, Yugi decides to pass his turn back to Rebecca who plays the Cannon Soldier. Recognising the play from his duel against Professor Hawkins, Solomon tries to warn his grandson that Rebecca will try to sacrifice another monster on her next turn to allow her to directly attack Yugi's life points.
Determined to prevent Rebecca damaging his life points, Yugi attacks the Cannon Soldier but finds the attack instead drawn to the Millennium Shield because of its Ring of Magnetism. As Rebecca draws her next card, she is pleased to see that it is the Shadow Ghoul, the card she is waiting for to play in a few turns time. Sacrificing a second Witch of the Black Forest, Rebecca is able to use her Cannon Soldier to attack Yugi's life points directly, reducing them to 1100.
As Yugi searches to find a way to get his attacks past the Millennium Shield's magnetic field, Rebecca explains that she has learned from a duellist better than any Moto could ever be. As the pieces of the puzzle begin to fit together, Solomon realises that Rebecca must be related to his old friend Professor Arthur Hawkins. Asking Rebecca her surname, she reveals that she is in fact Rebecca Hawkins, granddaughter of Professor Hawkins and the rightful owner of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon card. She warns Yugi that he will pay for his grandfather's betrayal many years ago, but can she really defeat a duellist who has been able to withstand the ancient evils of the Millennium Eye?
Episode 42 - The Ties of Friendship
As the fierce duel between Rebecca and Yugi continues, Yugi attempts once again to convince Rebecca that his grandpa did not steal her Blue-Eyes White Dragon from her. However Rebecca insists that he took it from her grandfather. Tired of Rebecca's complaining, Solomon Moto decides to explain exactly how he came to get the Blue-Eyes:
"Many years ago, in Egypt, he was taking part in an archaeological dig in the hot desert. During the dig, Solomon Moto met up with Rebecca's grandfather, Professor Arthur Hawkins and the two became good friends. Unlike most archaeologists, Arthur had very radical theories towards the history of Egypt and its hieroglyphic language, believing that the Egyptian language had some link to the modern-day game of Duel Monsters.
On their quest to discover the truth behind the history of Egypt, Arthur and Solomon found themselves drawn to an Egyptian tomb with hieroglyphic carving similar to the images on Duel Monsters cards. When Arthur presented his findings he was ridiculed by other Egyptologists, but he persevered in his quest to find the answers. His findings even suggested a link between the Millennium items and the Shadow Realm, talking of immense duels that took place in another realm to compete for the power to rule the world.
On one expedition, the two friends found themselves trapped in a caved in tomb. Believing they were trapped with no way to escape, they quickly found themselves running low on food and water. As time went on, the two were reduced to their last canteen of water when Arthur suggested that they could pass the time by having a duel. Solomon agreed to the offer and also suggested that the winner should be the one to have the last of their water supply, as there was clearly not enough for the two to share. As the duel began, Arthur played the Witch of the Black Forest, the same card that Rebecca played on her first turn."
Fed up with hearing the lies, Rebecca insists that she and Yugi continue with their duel. While Téa, Joey and Tristan want to listen to the rest of the story first, Solomon agrees that maybe it would be best for them to finish the duel first. Playing the Catapult Turtle, Yugi uses the Magic card Brain Control to take control of the Millennium Shield. Firing the Shield from the Catapult, he destroys it, leaving Rebecca's Cannon Soldier vulnerable once more. Attacking it with the Summoned Skull, he reduces Rebecca's life points to 200.
Rebecca is vaguely impressed by the move, but seems more concerned by the number of monsters in her graveyard. Finding that she only has six in her graveyard, she plays the Judgement Blaster to discard five more monsters to her graveyard and also eliminate Yugi's Skull. Playing the Shadow Ghoul, Rebecca's strategy becomes clear. With eleven monsters in her graveyard, the Shadow Ghoul's attack power increases by 1100 making it almost unstoppable.
Horrified by the move, Yugi cannot believe that Rebecca has sacrificed the monsters just so she can power up her Shadow Ghoul. He tries to explain to her that each card is important because of their heart, but Rebecca ignores him, insisting that the cards are only about power. Determined to teach the young girl a lesson, Yugi plays a monster face down in defence mode, however Rebecca counters with the Stop Defence. Attacking with the Shadow Ghoul, Rebecca wipes out Yugi's monster, reducing his life points to 800.
Surprised that Rebecca seems to have the advantage, Tristan asks Yugi's Grandpa if the duel between him and Rebecca's grandfather played out in a similar way. Solomon informs Tristan that their duel went exactly the same as this one but promises him that the end of the duel may still surprise him.
Playing the Swords of Revealing Light, Yugi paralyses Rebecca's Shadow Ghoul for three turns in the hopes of finding some way to win. Unable to attack, Rebecca passes her turn back to Yugi, who uses Monster Reborn to revive his Dark Magician. Determined to stop Yugi from rebuilding his forces, Rebecca plays a Cannon Soldier in defence mode. Attacking it, Yugi's Dark Magician destroys the monster, however in doing so he increases the Shadow Ghoul's attack points by another 100.
Determined that no card can help Yugi win, Rebecca passes her turn once more and the Swords of Revealing Light fade away. Back in the past, Arthur Hawkins makes the same play, passing his turn to Solomon Moto. Realising that Solomon is waiting for one specific card, Arthur hopes that his friend will not draw the card required. As he draws what could be his final card, Solomon studies the card and then surrenders the match.
As Yugi draws his final card, he follows his grandpa's final move and surrenders. Watching from the sidelines, his friends are shocked that he gave up, however Rebecca on the other hand seems delighted. Ordering that Solomon returns her Blue-Eyes White Dragon to her, she is dismayed to see that the card has had to be repaired using tape after it was torn in half. As Solomon tries to explain, an old friend walks into the arena.
Apologising for his granddaughter's behaviour, Arthur Hawkins seems pleased to see his old friend once more. However before the two can begin their happy reunion, he takes Rebecca over to Yugi's side of the duelling arena. Showing Rebecca the card on the top of Yugi's deck, Arthur explains that Yugi could have used the Soul Release card to weaken the Shadow Ghoul and win the match. Rebecca is confused as to why Yugi sacrificed winning the duel, but Arthur explains that there is more to duelling than winning alone.
When Arthur duelled Yugi's grandpa, Solomon realised that his friend needed the last of the water more than he did, and that was why he forfeited the match. Shortly afterwards the two were rescued, but if Solomon had won the match then Arthur would have died. Arthur explains to Rebecca that the cards are about heart not power. Even though he used the same tactics as Rebecca, he respected each card that was sent to the graveyard because of its own strengths. And when Solomon surrendered to save his life, Arthur gave him the Blue-Eyes White Dragon as sign of friendship.
Pleased to see that his friend still cherishes the card, Arthur explains that duels form friendships between people. Realising how immature she has been, Rebecca apologises to Yugi and his grandpa for the way she acted. Accepting her apology, Yugi decides to give Rebecca a special card of his own to signify the friendship that could grow between them and so gives her The Ties of Friendship card that Croquet gave him. As two friends reunite under unexpected circumstances, a new friendship has been made between two unlikely adversaries.
Episode 43 - Legendary Heroes: Part 1
Having learned of how he was betrayed by his colleagues, Kaiba returns to Kaibacorp with the intention of exacting his revenge. Storming into the boardroom, his former employees are somewhat surprised to see that he is still alive, not realising that Pegasus had released his soul.
The furious Kaiba threatens to fire all of the board members, but they plead their case, claiming that they were only trying to help Kaiba. They tell Kaiba that they were only working with Pegasus to help Kaiba escape, but Kaiba is still determined to fire them all. However when they inform him that they have managed to prepare the VirtuaPod system ready for production, Kaiba decides to postpone their dismissal while he tests his latest invention.
As Kaiba and Mokuba head down to the lower levels of the building so that Kaiba can test the system, Mokuba tries to convince his brother that he shouldn't rush into anything like this. However Kaiba is disswayed, having waited years for the system to finally be completed. In the lab, Kaiba climbs into the pod and inserts his deck into the card reader. As Mokuba hesitantly starts up the system, Kaiba feels himself being transported into the virtual realm that he has spent years developing. Inside the game, Kaiba is pleased that all aspects seem to be functioning properly however Mokuba, watching his brother on a screen in the lab, is still uncertain as to how safe the machine is.
As a Two-headed King Rex appears Kaiba summons the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, which easily destroys it. However as the monster vanishes, an Armed Ninja appears. Kaiba is suspicious of this development, knowing that it was not in his original programme, and, as the Ninja reveals a Dragon Capture Jar, Kaiba realises that the game has been reprogrammed. As his Blue-Eyes is sealed within the Jar, Kaiba finds himself caught inside a net.
Back in the lab, Mokuba can only watch as his brother is captured inside the game and, as Kaiba's body goes limp, Mokuba becomes worried for his brother's safety. As the room begins to close down, trapping Mokuba inside, the traitorous board of directors informs Mokuba that they have once again trapped both him and his brother. But as Kemo and a number of guards storm the room to capture Mokuba, they find that he has escaped through the ventilation shaft, having taken his brother's deck with him.
Meanwhile, at the Game Shop, Yugi, Joey, Téa and Tristan are browsing the latest cards that Yugi's Grandpa has in stock when Mokuba bursts in. Mokuba explains to the gang what has happened to his brother and begs Yugi for help to beat the game and save his brother. Mokuba explains that although Kaiba was using the finished pod there are still a number of prototype models stored in his secret lab. Yugi promises to help Mokuba rescue his brother and the group heads off to find Kaiba's lab.
Arriving at the lab, the group finds that there are only three pods. As Joey and Tristan argue as to which one of them should go Mokuba insists that he is going, as he is the only one with any experience of the game. With the decision that Joey, Yugi and Mokuba should go, the three climb into the pods as Téa and Tristan start the machine. However as the three enter the virtual world, their signal is detected by the bosses at Kaibacorp who send Kemo and a group of guards to disconnect the three duellists before they can beat the game.
As the three arrive in the virtual world they are all amazed at how lifelike it seems. However each of the duellists is equipped with a life point counter, and Yugi is concerned by this, worrying what would happen if the counter reached zero. As the three begin to explore the game, they find their way to a graveyard and three zombies ambush them.
Demonstrating how duels work in the virtual world, Mokuba holds up the Rude Kaiser card and calls out its name to summon the monster. Yugi follows suit, summoning the Dark Magician, however as the two attack the attacks seem to have no effect. Determined to wipe out the zombies, Joey summons the Flame Swordsman and orders him to attack. However as the Swordsman does so, Yugi realises that the zombies' attack strength has increased to be greater than that of Joey's Swordsman.
As the zombie deflects the attack, Joey's life points fall to 1820. As Joey wonders how they can defeat the zombies, Yugi remembers that there is one way to defeat zombies; the card that Joey used to defeat Bones in their duel in the Arena of Lost Souls. Remembering the duel as well, Joey activates the Shield and Sword to reverse the attack and defence points of each monster on the field. With the zombies vulnerable to attacks, Yugi orders the Dark Magician to attack, destroying all three zombies at once.
The monsters vanish having been defeated, but Joey notices that his life points have not returned to 2000. Discovering this, Yugi suggests that they will all have to be careful to not lose all their life points. However the group is faced with a greater problem, where to go next. As Yugi and Mokuba consider their options, Joey spots a fairy flying a little way ahead of them. With no better suggestions made, the three follow the fairy in the hopes that it will lead them to where they should go next.
Following the fairy, the three find their way to a large town. Entering the town they discover a number of stalls selling cards for points. Joey sets his eyes on a number of powerful cards, but when the group checks the number of points they have earned they find that they have nothing like enough. Remembering that they are in the game to rescue Kaiba, the three split up in the hopes of finding a clue to where they need to go next.
After a long search the three return to the town square where Mokuba informs them that an old woman saw a man and a prisoner heading off towards the mountains across the desert. Certain that the prisoner must have been Kaiba, the three set off to cross the desert to rescue Kaiba from whatever fate might await him.
However the desert is hot and a sandstorm blows in, making the crossing difficult and soon the group find themselves sucked up by a sand twister and blown back into town. Back in the town, an old man informs the gang that they can't cross the desert on their own and that the will require a Niwatori Chicken if they wish to cross. Yugi asks the man where they can get the card but the man only tells them that it is a prized bird. Certain that one of the stalls must have the cards for sale, the three head off to scour the town in search for a Niwatori.
Back in the real world, a number of guards have arrived at Kaiba's lab determined to stop Yugi from rescuing Kaiba. However as Téa and Tristan hear the guard approaching they lock and barricade the door, determined to protect their friends from danger.
Having searched all the card stands, the gang learns that none of them sell the Niwatori card. However just as they begin to give up hope, Yugi sees a poster advertising a gladiator duelling contest to win the Niwatori card. Joey volunteers to fight for the card, but Yugi is uneasy about this as out of all three duellists, Joey is the only one who has lost any life points. Even so, Joey is confident that he can win the card for them and signs up for the duel.
As Joey prepares for the contest, he is given a pig costume to wear and is informed that his fighting name will be Senor Porky. As Yugi and Mokuba cheer from the sidelines, Joey walks into the arena, ready to face his opponent. As the legendary Madam Butterfly enters the ring both she and Joey prepare to duel, however Joey's mystery opponent may not be quite as mysterious as he and his friends believe her to be.
Episode 44 - Legendary Heroes: Part 2
As Yugi, Joey and Mokuba continue their adventure in the virtual world, Téa and Tristan are facing problems of their own as Kemo and a bunch of other guards are trying to storm Kaiba's lab. However as they fight off the enemy advances, their virtual friends are oblivious to the events occurring in the real world.
As the gladiator duel begins, Joey summons the Flame Swordsman. His opponent, Madam Butterfly, counters with a Harpy Lady, but Joey attacks, knowing his Swordsman is stronger than the Harpy. However as the Swordsman attacks, Madam Butterfly plays the Mirror Wall to counter the attack. Not only surprised by the move, Joey is more surprised that both plays seem to be those that Mai would play, but dismisses the thought as there is no way that Mai could be in the game as well.
However as his opponent plays the Rose Whip and prepares to take out Joey's Swordsman, both Joey and Yugi begin to suspect that Madam Butterfly really is Mai. As the Harpy prepares to attack, Joey takes off his mask and reveals himself to his opponent. Seeing that her opponent is really a good friend, Madam Butterfly calls off the attack and reveals her identity as well.
As Mai and Joey stand face to face, two friends reunited, Yugi and Mokuba run out into the arena to greet their friend. Mai explains that she was asked by the bosses at Kaibacorp to test out the game, presumably to ensure it would work when they tried to capture Kaiba. Yugi explains the dilemma and Mai, willing to help, uses her Harpy to steal the Niwatori card and the four friends escape from the arena.
As they reach the desert, Mai uses the prize card to summon four Niwatori Chickens and the gang begins their journey across the desert. On the way Mai explains that Kaibacorp is not only asking her to test the system, but they are paying her for doing it. However as they continue their quest across the sandy plains, a Sandstorm Monster appears and attacks. But Joey quickly reacts, summoning his Red-Eyes Black Dragon to destroy the monster. With the monster defeated, the sandstorm begins to clear and a temple becomes visible in the distance. Certain that it can lead them to Kaiba, the group heads towards it at double speed.
As the party reaches the temple, Mokuba rushes ahead, quickly followed by the others. However inside the temple they do not find Kaiba but instead find themselves at the beginning of a labyrinth maze. As they cautiously enter the labyrinth, the group hear somebody scream and rush in to help them. However as they approach a crossroads, they find themselves trapped between four approaching Labyrinth Tanks.
With nowhere to run, Yugi plays the Magical Hats to protect the four and teleport them away from the Tanks. As they climb out from under the hat, Joey notices the fairy from the graveyard and decides to follow it. The fairy leads the group to a young girl who looks much like Mokuba does. Mokuba asks the girl if she is alright and she explains that she had gotten lost in the maze and that Aero, her fairy companion, had gone to find a way out.
As the group of five follow Aero's lead, they eventually reach the end of the Labyrinth, however they find that they are not yet safe as they come up against the Gate Guardian. As Yugi summons the Summoned Skull, Joey calls upon his Red-Eyes Black Dragon and the two fuse to form the Black Skull Dragon. However even this mighty beast is not strong enough to defeat the Guardian until Joey activates the Dragon Nails to increase its attack strength even further.
As the Dragon destroys the Gate Guardian, the girl is amazed at how brave the two are, commenting that they seem as strong as the heroes of legend and, as a way of saying thanks, she offers that the four of them come with her to the palace.
Meanwhile, in another part of the virtual world, Kaiba has been chained up in a dark cavern and is being guarded by the Witty Phantom. As Kaiba attempts to disable the program using his programmed voice commands, the Phantom explains that it is no longer his program to control. The Phantom continues to explain to Kaiba that both he and another prisoner will be sacrificed as offerings in order to revive the Mythic Dragon.
Oblivious to the fate of their friend, Yugi, Joey, Mai and Mokuba make their way to the palace with the young girl. On the way, Yugi comments that Mokuba should be flattered that Kaiba based the girl, Adina, on him. As they arrive at the palace, the group learn that Adina is actually the Princess of Simlau. As the four tuck into a great banquet prepared in their honour, Adina explains that people often disappear at this time of the year because offerings must be made to the Mythic Dragon.
Adina explains that the other kingdom has already made their offering, a stranger from a far away land. Mokuba realises that the offering must be his brother and asks Adina where the offerings are held. Adina explains that the offerings are taken to a dark castle in the sky, which Yugi explains to be the Castle of Dark Illusions. Adina explains that the castle has a barrier to block Duel Monsters from entering or exiting, but legend states that, about a thousand years ago, a hero escaped from the castle on some kind of flying machine.
Yugi asks Adina who Simlau is intending to offer as its sacrifice, and Adina informs him that she is to be Simlau's offering. However she explains that an ancient prophecy proclaims that one day heroes will come and unite to destroy the Dragon, and she is confident that the prophecy will come true before the offering has to happen. Adina tells Yugi and the others that the fate of Simlau rests in their hands, and Joey explains that the have no choice but to help as they have to rescue Kaiba anyway.
The four retire to quarters where they change into the traditional battle gear of Simlau warriors and then return to the palace roof, where a storm is brewing. As the group look up into the sky they see the Castle of Dark Illusions appear from behind the clouds and the sky begins to fill with duel monsters. Determined to stop the monsters, Mokuba summons the Dark Witch to defend Adina, but Yugi tells him to call back his monster.
As Yugi prepares to activate the Dark Hole, an Armed Ninja destroy the card, stopping Yugi from activating it. Joey summons the Axe Raider to protect Adina from the Ninja, but she is scooped up by a Whiptail Crow. However as Joey, Yugi and Mai call after Adina, the figure dressed up as Mokuba begins to cry, claiming that Mokuba was taken. The three friends are confused, but the Mokuba look-alike explains that she is the real Adina and that she and Mokuba changed clothes because Mokuba wanted to be taken to be with his brother.
As the three comfort Adina, Yugi notices an ancient ruin that looks like the illustration of the flying machine used by the hero who escaped the Dark Castle. Heading to the ruins, they discover the machine buried and fossilised and incapable of flying. However with the power of Joey's Time Wizard, the ruins begin to rebuild themselves as time reverses itself, reviving the ruins of Old Simlau. As the three friends watch with amazement, the ground beneath them begins to shake as the flying machine begins to arise.
Back in the real world, Téa and Tristan continue to fight off the onslaught of guards trying to break into the lab. But with only two of them to fight off an unknown number of guards, it could only be a matter of time before the guards break through and disconnect their friends from the machines as well.
Episode 45 - Legendary Heroes: Part 3
As time grinds to halt for Yugi, Joey and Mai, Princess Adina and the people of Simlau are stunned as the ancient ruins return to their original form. As the aircraft rises from the ground, everyone lets out a sigh of relief that the three heroes are safe. As the aircraft takes off with Joey at the helm, Aero flies to catch up, signifying that he wants to come with them.
Back in the real world things are not going quite as easily for Téa and Tristan who are still fighting off Kemo and the other guards. However their friends in the virtual world are oblivious to this as the Castle of Dark Illusions comes into view. They are more concerned by the swarm of monsters that is heading for their ship. As the monsters begin to attack, the three call out some monsters of their own to defend them.
With Mai's Harpies, Joey's Fierce Knight and Yugi's Dark Magician protecting the ship, it seems that things might be alright until one monster breaks through and dives for Yugi. As Yugi stands still, unsure what to do, Aero dives into the patch of the monster and blocks the attack, but in doing so sacrifices his own life. The Dark Magician destroys the monster that destroyed the group's friend and Yugi activates the Swords of Revealing Light to paralyse the onslaught.
Unable to come to turns with the loss of a friend, Yugi is filled with rage and his Millennium Puzzle activates, summoning the forces of his other self, Yami Yugi. As the aircraft approaches the Castle, it hits the magical barrier protecting it, but true to legend the ship is able to penetrate the forcefield. However as the ship reaches the inside of the forcefield, a Salamandra attacks, destroying the aircraft. As the group begins to fall, Yugi summons the Winged Dragon and the three fly on to the castle on its back.
Meanwhile, deep inside the castle, the Witty Phantom returns to where it has held Kaiba captive. Taunting Kaiba, the Phantom reveals that the second sacrifice has arrived. Bringing forwards Mokuba, still dressed as Adina, the Phantom explains that they were not fooled by the change of costume and that they were hoping they would capture Mokuba instead of the girl. Kaiba asks Mokuba why he has come into the game, and Mokuba tells him that he came to rescue him.
True to his word, Mokuba summons the Swordstalker to cut Kaiba's chains and then, returning his brother's deck back to him, Kaiba summons the Blue-Eyes White Dragon to destroy the Witty Phantom. As the two try to find a way out of the cave, a group of Armed Ninjas attack. But as one plays the Dragon Capture Jar, Kaiba is ready for the trap that took his first Blue-Eyes and counters by summoning the Trap Master, destroying the Jar and releasing his first Blue-Eyes from its prison.
With two Blue-Eyes on his side, Kaiba attacks the Armed Ninjas, destroying them all at one. As the two brothers continue along the passage, Mokuba explains that he, Yugi and Joey came to rescue Kaiba. Realising that Yugi is in the game as well, Kaiba becomes angry, still reeling over the debt he owes Yugi from being rescued from Pegasus.
Elsewhere in the castle, Yugi, Joey and Mai have found their way to a forest environment. Not only are they being attacked by a swarm of Killer Needles, but they can see three Cocoons of Evolution growing on a large tree in the centre of the forest. As Joey summons the Fierce Knight to attack the insect swarm, a Man-Eater Bug attacks his Knight, destroying it and reducing Joey's life points.
Yugi activates his Mirror Force to destroy the Killer Needles, but the fire created when they are destroyed causes the cocoons to hatch, releasing three Great Moths. However before the Moths have a chance to attack, Yugi summons the Catapult Turtle and uses it to catapult a Kuriboh at the Moths. Activating the Multiply card, the Kuriboh replicate until there are hundreds of them flying towards the Moths, each one destructing on contact and destroying the Moths.
As the three continue into the castle, they make their way to a dark cave where they find Kaiba and Mokuba heading the other way. As the five prepare to leave, they hear the voices of the Kaibacorp directors being transmitted into the game. The directors congratulate them on making it to the final level, but Kaiba corrects them, saying that they stopped the ritual and so they beat the game.
However the directors reveal that this is not the case, and reprogramming the game once again summon the Mythic Dragon into the cave. With a strength of 5000/4000 the five decide that they will have to work together if they have any chance of defeating the powerful beast. As Mai summons the Harpy Lady Sisters, her monsters become paralysed and unable to attack. The directors explain that they have added a field effect to the cave which they call the Dragon Seal. The seal means that while any monster can be played, only dragons can be attack.
Still determined to win the duel, each duellist summons their strongest dragon onto the field. As Kaiba calls upon his Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Joey summons its weaker counterpart, the Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Following suit, Mai plays her Harpy's Pet Dragon and Yugi finishes the quartet by playing his Curse of Dragon. However as the four dragons attack, the Mythic Dragon counters each one of the attacks and then sends out its own attack directed at Mokuba.
With Mokuba unable to defend himself, Joey uses his Red-Eyes to block the attack, but the blast reduces his life points to zero and Joey begins to vanish. Determined to avenge the loss of his friend, Yugi sacrifices both Gaia and his Curse of Dragon to summon the Black Lustre Soldier, but the Dragon Seal prevents it from attacking. As Mai's Dragon attacks, the Mythic Dragon counters its attack, destroying the dragon and eliminating Mai's life points.
With two friends lost in the battle, Yugi instructs Kaiba that they need to work together if they are going to win the duel. Yugi tells Kaiba to summon the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, but Kaiba's pride gets in the way and he refuses to listen. As the Mythic Dragon attacks, Mokuba pushes his brother out of the way of the blast, but is destroyed by the powerful attack. Yugi appeals to Kaiba to work with him, and Kaiba reluctantly agrees.
Summoning the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, Yugi uses Polymerisation to fuse it with the Black Lustre Soldier. As the Mythic Dragon attacks, the smoke clears to reveal the result of the fusion, the Dragon Master Knight. With an initial strength of 5000/4000, the Knight's attack power increases for that of each dragon that had been played onto the field, giving it a final attack strength of 9000/4000. The Knight unleashes its attack, destroying the Mythic Dragon.
As Yugi and Kaiba wake up, they find themselves back at the palace. Adina thanks them for destroying the Mythic Dragon, but Kaiba is unable to be happy, having lost his brother during the fight. However Adina explains that the loss of losing a loved one is too much for even a great hero to have to stand and, revealing herself to be a Mystical Elf, chants a spell to revive the fallen friends.
As the exit portal appears before the group, Kaiba thanks Yugi for his help, but explains that the two are not going to team up in real life any time soon. Yugi asks Kaiba to consider him as a friend rather than as an adversary, but Kaiba ignores Yugi as he exits the virtual world through the portal.
Returning to the real world, Yugi, Joey and Mokuba are just in time to find the guards break into the lab. Realising that Kaiba must have also been released from the game, the guards head back to Kaibacorp to try and stop him before he can fire the traitorous directors. From the next room in the lab, Mai wakes from her time in the game just in time to see Mokuba leave to find his brother. Before he goes, he calls out his thanks to the group for helping him out once again, but will this be the start of a glorious friendship between Yugi and the Kaiba brothers, or just another one off rescue mission.
Episode 46 - Dungeon Dice Monsters: Part 1
As another day begins, Solomon Moto is not his usual happy self as he cleans the front of the Game Shop. As Téa arrives so that she and Yugi can walk to school together, she asks Yugi why his grandpa is being so grumpy. Yugi tells her that he doesn't know, but Solomon overhears the two and tells them the cause of his troubles; a new game shop that has opened in town.
On the way to school, Yugi decides to check out the competition. Arriving at the massive Game Shop, a woman is handing out leaflets to promote the main attraction to the shop, the new Dungeon Dice Monsters game. As Yugi and Téa head off for school, two figures are watching them from one of the shop windows.
One of the men tells the other that he can't believe that Yugi was the person to defeat Pegasus in a duel, but reassures himself that Yugi is not as good as Duke Devlon. The other man, Duke himself, tells his associate that he is determined to crush Yugi in a duel and take his title as King of Games.
Later at school, Joey is excited to hear about the new game shop, especially when he hears that they stock the new Dungeon Dice game. Conversation leads to talk of Serenity, Joey's sister, and Joey explains that her eyesight is beginning to improve and the doctors hope that she will make a full recovery. As the friends continue to talk, a lot of cheering begins to filter through from the next door room.
Going to see what happens, the group find a guy performing tricks with five die and a cup. Yugi asks one of the classmates who the guy is, and the kid explains that he is Duke Devlon, the owner of the new game shop. Joey begins to spout off a load of talk about how Duke has no talent and is a show off when Duke comes over and introduces himself.
Duke seems to be honoured to be in the same room as the only duellist to ever defeat Pegasus in a duel, but seems to have no interest in Joey at all. As Joey continues to bad-mouth Duke, Duke decides to challenge Joey to a small contest. Taking out a cup and a dice, Duke places the dice onto the table with the cup on top of it.
Duke tells Joey that he can move the dice from under the cup to his hand without touching it, but Joey doesn't believe him. Duke tells Joey that not only can he do it, but that he already has. Not believing him, Joey picks up the cup to check and as he does so, Duke picks up the dice with his hand.
Realising that the con artist has tricked him, Joey decides to get revenge and challenges Duke to a duel. Duke reluctantly accepts, explaining that he doesn't have a deck and so the match would be unfair. He suggests that if the two were to play from new decks made up of packs of cards then neither duellist would have an advantage over the other.
Yugi tries to dissuade Joey, explaining that the duel would be a pure game of chance, but Joey is confident that he can win. However Duke also suggests a wager on the match, with the loser having to do what the winner wants them to for a week. Seeing a chance to get Duke to close down the new shop, Joey accepts to the duel, but Yugi is still unsure.
As the group arrive at Duke's game shop, they are shown to the lift that will take them down to the arena. On the way, Duke and Joey construct their decks from the packs of cards provided and Joey seems pleased with his choice of cards. As the lift arrives, Joey is amazed by the size of the arena and Duke shows off by explaining that this is actually the smallest arena in the shop. Duke explains that the duel will be broadcast internationally as he feels that a larger audience makes a duellist play better.
As the duel begins, Duke plays the Oni Tank T-34. Joey retaliates by playing the Swordhunter and attacks Duke's Tank, not only taking his life points down to 950, but also increasing the Swordhunter's attack power by 200. Impressed by the move, Yugi begins to believe that his friend might just have a chance at winning after all.
Duke plays the Dark Bat in defence mode and also one other card face down on the field. However as the smug duellist is confident that his life points are safe, Joey plays the Mad Sword Beast and attacks Duke's Bat, reducing his life points to 550. As Duke looks on shocked, Joey explains that the Mad Sword Beast damages the opponent's life points even if the monster is in defence mode. However Duke is not totally downhearted as he reveals the Mitizouri trap card which sucks in Joey's Swordhunter.
Duke then plays one card face down before attacking with his Spike Bomb, destroying Joey's Sword Beast and reducing his life points to 1650. Joey plays the Goblin Attack Force, destroying Duke's Bomb and reducing his life points to 50. However as he begins to believe he can win, the Goblins switch to defence mode, an unfortunate side effect of them attacking.
Even with only 50 life points left, Duke still seems surprisingly calm. Playing the Gradies monster, he reveals the Limiter Removal card, increasing his monster's attack points. He then plays the Fairy Meteor Crush card, a card that gives Gradies the ability to attack Joey's life points in the same way that the Mad Sword Beast did. Attacking Joey's Goblins, Duke eliminates all of Joey's remaining life points.
With Joey defeated, Duke decides to make the most of his slave-for-a-week. Bringing out a dog suit, he makes Joey put it on and then begins taunting Joey, flicking dice at him whenever he tries to speak. Unable to put up with seeing his friend humiliated any longer, Yugi's Millennium Puzzle activates, transforming him into Yami Yugi. Yami challenges Duke to a second duel in order to free Joey from his servitude, and Duke gladly accepts, but only under his terms.
If the two are to duel, Duke insists that they must play his game, Dungeon Dice Monsters. But as if that wasn't enough, Duke also insists that if Yugi loses he must give up his title of King of Games and promise to never play Duel Monsters ever again. Joey tries to get his friend to pull out of the duel, but Yami refuses to back down, telling Joey that he will stand by his friend's side no matter what the costs might be. But as the two prepare to duel, is either Yugi prepared for what could be in store from them as they play a game they have only just heard about.
Episode 47 - Dungeon Dice Monsters: Part 2
As the duel between Yugi Moto and Duke Devlon prepares to begin, crowds gather at Duke's Game Shop to watch the match as it is broadcast live around the world. As Yugi and Duke remind each other of the conditions of the match, the usual Duel Monsters arena undergoes a startling transformation into a Dungeon Dice Monsters arena.
Duke warns Yugi that the new game has a whole new set of rules and that if Yugi wants any chance of winning he will have to learn all the rules quickly. However Yugi is not too concerned with the layout of the arena until he a large tray of dice reveals itself. Duke explains that each player must select fifteen dice to form the dice pool, the dice equivalent of a duelling deck.
However as Duke confidently picks his dice pool, Yugi is unsure as to what the different colours and markings mean. As Yugi finalises his selection, Duke tells him to place the dice into the Automator, which will "shuffle" them and dispense three dice each round. As each player inserts their dice into their Automator, Duke explains that each turn they shall roll three dice and then make a move depending on the results of the roll. Duke also explains that in a similar way to Duel Monsters, each player has Heart Points, however unlike Duel Monsters each player only has three Hearts.
As Duke makes his first roll, he informs Yugi that in order to summon a monster it is necessary to roll two Summoning crests in a single roll. As Duke has two Summon crests, he is able to summon a monster onto the board. Taking one of the dice, Duke places the dice onto the board and it unfolds to release the monster inside it, Ryu-Kishin. As he finishes his turn, Duke explains that the dice themselves for a pathway for the monsters to travel along, with the intention that the player can build a route across the board so that their monsters can reach the opponent and destroy their Heart Points.
As Yugi makes his first roll, all three dice are different and so play passes back to Duke, who decides to explain another rule to Yugi. Duke explains that there are six different types of crests on the dice; Summon, Move, Magic, Attack, Defence and Trap and that the number of summon crests on each die depends on its level.
Duke's Level 2 dice each had three summon crests on them, making it easy to get roll two summon crests, however Yugi's Level 4 dice only have one summon crest each, making the odds of rolling two summons much lower. But if Yugi had rolled a summon, the monster would have been much stronger. As Yugi checks his dice, he realises that most of the ones he picked were of higher levels, making his chances of summoning a monster lower than Duke's.
As Duke rolls, he gets two summons and a movement crest. Releasing Goranzo onto the board, Duke uses the movement crest to move his new monster forwards one space along the dungeon path. As play passes back to Yugi, Duke explains that it is possible to store crests that aren't wanted until a later turn, although summon crests cannot be stored. As Yugi makes his roll, he once again draws no matches, but on Duke's roll he once again rolls a pair of summons and a movement crest. Releasing the Gator Dragon, Duke moves it forwards one space.
With Yugi still summonless and Duke now with three monsters on the board, Yugi hopes to roll a pair of summons. But as the dice reveal two summon crests, Duke explains that if the crests are of different levels then the summon can't be activated and so Yugi is still left with no monsters on the field. As the Dice Automator dispenses Duke's dice, Duke realises that he has been dealt a set of Level Four dice.
As Duke rolls his set of high level dice, he rolls two summon crests and uses it to summon another object onto the field. However rather than a monster, Duke's summon reveals a chest. Explaining that this is an item summon, Duke passes play back to Yugi, who once again fails to roll a matching pair. Pleased to see Yugi struggling, Duke taunts Yugi, calling him the King of Lame and arguing that Yugi is nothing more than a fraud.
As Duke rolls another summon, he releases The 13th Grave right in front of Yugi's Heart Points. With no monster to protect him, Yugi has to make his next move count and, having faith in his dice, rolls two Level 4 summons to release the Mighty Mage. Activating one movement crest, Yugi positions the Mage next to Duke's latest monster and orders the attack, destroying the monster. As the crowd watching the live broadcast are amazed by the move, Duke warns Yugi that he still has little chance of winning with only one monster to fight his five.
However with Duke's next roll he summons the Blast Lizard and warns Yugi that it has a special attack that will defeat Yugi's Mage. As Yugi wonders what Duke meant by a special attack, he takes his set of dice from the Automator to discover that they are only Level 2 dice. Successfully rolling for a summon, Yugi releases the Winged Dragon onto the board.
As Duke rolls two magic crests, he decides to demonstrate his Lizard's special attack. Accessing his crest pool, he uses three magic crests to activate the Blast Lizard's special attack, destroying Yugi's Dragon. Yugi rolls three attack crests which are of little use to him, so play passes back to Duke who rolls two summons to release the Dark Assailant. To finish his turn, Duke moves his Blast Lizard and Gator Dragon forwards so that the two are almost at Yugi's heart points and ready to attack.
Passing play back to Yugi, Duke warns him that he has little chance of winning when even Duke, who created the game, is unable to see a way to win. As Yugi is shocked to learn that Duke is the creator of Dungeon Dice Monsters as well as its champion, Duke tells Yugi that it is his fault that nobody knows that Duke created the game and begins to recount his story:
"Duke had spent years perfecting the game of Dungeon Dice Monsters until it was complete and, when he finished, sent an e-mail to Pegasus to ask for help in marketing the game. He soon got a reply and Pegasus invited him to the Duellist Kingdom to discuss terms of the contract. Duke was excited about getting to meet his idol, but as soon as he arrived, Pegasus challenged him to a duel of Dungeon Dice Monsters and easily beat him. Pegasus agreed that the two would work as partners to market the game, and told Duke that they would finalise the contract after he had finished hosting the Duel Monsters tournament that was about to begin."
However since Yugi beat Pegasus in the tournament, Duke has been unable to contact him and so his hopes of marketing the game have been destroyed. Yugi tries to explain to Duke that Pegasus was a evil man, but Duke's hero worship has blinded him to reason. As Yugi's pleas fall on deaf ears, he decides to make his next roll and manages to summon the Thunderball. However Duke is not concerned by this weak monster, mostly because he is confident that Yugi will be unable to activate its special attack.
As Duke makes his roll, he uses two movement crests to position his Dragon and Lizard to attack. Activating one attack crest, the Gator Dragon attacks Yugi's Heart Points, destroying Yugi's first life. With Yugi unable to defend himself and with Duke prepared to destroy Yugi's remaining Heart Points on his next turn, Duke begins to look forwards to defeating the fraudster and avenging Pegasus's good name. But even with all the odds stacked against Yugi, the King of Games is not going to be as easy to defeat as Duke hopes he will be.
Episode 48 - Dungeon Dice Monsters: Part 3
With Yugi down to two heart points, the King of Games begins to search for a way out of his dilemma. As Duke taunts Yugi, confident that the duel is about to be finished, Yugi uses his Help Screen to discover how to activate his Thunderball's special attack. Rolling two Magic II crests, Yugi activates the four magic crests, along with two in his crest pool, to activate the Rolling Crush and destroy both Duke's Blast Lizard and his Gator Dragon.
Outside the shop, Solomon Moto has decided to check out the competition and is surprised to see the crowd gathered out front. Pushing his way to the front of the crowd, he finds the TV screen broadcasting Yugi's duel with Duke. Startled that his grandson is duelling against his rival, Solomon decides to hang about and watch the rest of the match unfold.
Back at the arena, an impressed Duke congratulates Yugi on his ability to use the Help Screen, but warns him that he is still not good enough to defeat the creator of the game. However Yugi reminds Duke that he has already defeated Pegasus, the creator of Duel Monsters, so Duke should still watch out.
As Duke rolls two Attack II crests and a Movement II, play passes back to Yugi who successfully rolls for a Level 2 Summon, releasing the Knight of Twin Swords. Storing his extra movement crest, Duke congratulates Yugi on learning to store his crests to use them later.
As play passes to Duke, the crest pools of each player are revealed, and while Yugi has 1 movement crest, 5 attack crests and 4 defence crests, Duke has 7 movement crests and 2 attack crests. As Duke begins his turn, he is impressed to see that Yugi is using his help screen once again and is surprised that his opponent is picking up the rules so quickly.
Releasing the Battle Ox, Duke moves it forwards four spaces and orders it to attack Yugi's Knight. But as the Ox makes its attack, Yugi switches his Knight to defence mode, meaning that the Knight takes 20 damage but is still left with 10 hit points. As play passes back to Yugi, he uses two attack crests to activate his Knight's ability to use the its Twin Swords, destroying the Battle Ox.
However as Yugi and his friends begin to believe that the King of Games may have a chance to win, Duke begins to laugh, explaining that his last move was more than just about summoning a monster onto the board. As Yugi studies the board, Duke points out that his own path now spreads all the way across the board and, as Yugi's path is unable to cross it, Yugi has become blocked off, although he can still risk using Duke's dungeon path if he wants to.
As the Dice Automator dispenses Duke's dice, Duke is pleased to see that the Automator has given him a black die. As Duke rolls two Summon crests, he releases the black die to reveal a Warp Vortex. Duke explains to Yugi that when two Warp Vortexes are played on the board, monsters can pass through it to move quickly across the board.
As Yugi worries over this latest revelation, Duke warns him that when he rolls his second black die summoning he will place the Vortex by Yugi's heart points, giving him easy access to destroy him. On Yugi's roll, he successfully summons the Strike Ninja, a monster with the ability to move three spaces for each movement crest used.
Unfazed by this latest play, Duke is pleased to see that the Automator has dispensed his second black die, but as he makes his roll not one of the dice comes up with a summon crest. However as play passes back to Yugi, his Automator also dispenses a black die. As Yugi makes his roll, he successfully releases a second Warp Vortex. Playing it onto his side of the board, Yugi moves the Strike Ninja through the Vortex and uses it to destroy Duke's Ryu-Kishin.
As Duke's roll fails to provide him with a summoning, Yugi rolls a Movement crest and a Movement II crest. Activating both, he positions the Ninja in front of Duke's heart points and attacks, eliminating the first of Duke's heart points.
Although Duke seems pleased to see Yugi is not the washout he first thought, he is still determined to crush his rival as he summons the powerful Orgoth the Relentless. However as Duke activates two magic crests in order for Orgoth to attack, Yugi scours the help screen for advice. As the smoke from Orgoth's attack clears, Duke is horrified to discover that Yugi has been able to use a trap crest to dodge the attack.
With Yugi's Strike Ninja still on the board, he uses it to destroy a second of Duke's heart points, taking Yugi into the lead. However as Orgoth attacks again, Yugi realises that he has no more trap crests and is unable to avoid the attack.
With Yugi's Ninja destroyed, Duke prepares to take control once more with his most powerful monster. But is his confidence premature when facing off against a duellist who has been able to overcome everything that life has thrown at him so far.
Episode 49 - Dungeon Dice Monsters: Part 4
With Yugi's main hope of defeating Duke destroyed, he is apprehensive as he makes his next roll and uses the rolled movement crests to retreat his Knight back towards his heart points to try and protect them from Orgoth. But as Duke rolls two Movement II crests he moves Orgoth into the warp hole and it reappears on Yugi's side of the field.
As Yugi tries to find a way to defeat Duke's monster, he uses his movement crests to gather up hi monsters in an attempt to protect his hearts from being destroyed. However Duke moves his monster forwards again and activates two Magic crests to allow Orgoth to attack, destroying Yugi's Thunderball. As Tristan, Téa and Joey doubt that Yugi will be able to win the duel, especially with no more room to summon any more monsters, Solomon is still sure that there must be some way for his grandson to defeat Duke.
As Yugi prepares to make his next roll, Duke commends him on having done so well but warns him that he is still going to lose. However Yugi is not willing to give up yet and, rolling an attack crest, orders his Mighty mage to attack. The Mage attacks, but as it does so Duke uses a Defence crest to block the attack before using two Magic crests to allow Orgoth to attack Yugi's monster, destroying it.
With only one monster left in play, Yugi is doubtful that he has any way of winning, but Joey calls out to him, telling him that he is fighting for more than just his title, he is fighting for the Duel Monsters cards and all the opponents that he has defeated in previous duels. If Yugi gives up now he would be dishonouring every one of them.
Determined to go on fighting until the very end, Yugi makes his roll. Advancing his Knight of Twin Swords towards Orgoth, Yugi activates all six remaining Attack crests to allow his Knight to perform 3 double-slash attacks. However as the knight prepares to attack, Duke activates Goranzo's special power to transform three Trap crests into a Defence crest which he then uses to counter Yugi's attack.
With Yugi's attack having failed, Duke attacks with Orgoth, destroying Yugi's final monster. However even with no more monsters on the field, and no room to summon any more monsters, Duke is surprised at how calm Yugi seems. Yugi rolls but is unable to do anything, so Duke advances his monster and attacks Yugi's heart points, reducing him to one heart.
As Yugi prepares to make what could be his final roll of the game, Duke offers that he could surrender now rather than face the humiliation of being defeated on the next turn. But Yugi has faith in the dice and as the dice land he has successfully rolled a Level 4 summoning. Duke taunts Yugi, warning him that there is nowhere on the board to summon the monster, but Yugi points out that there are many different ways to unfold the dice. Placing the dice down on an empty square, Yugi successfully dimensions the dice to reveal the Dark Magician.
Seeing the powerful monster, Duke remembers something that Pegasus told him when they duelled to test out the game. Pegasus suggested adding a monster with additional skills other than just attacking and defending, but never told Duke what the monster was that he added. As Duke worries that the Dark Magician might be that monster, Yugi orders his Magician to attack Orgoth, wiping it from the board.
As Duke makes his roll, he moves his Dark Assailant back to the Item Chest that he placed on the board many turns before. Opening the chest, Duke reveals the Monster Cannon, a creature with the power to fire another monster at Yugi's Magician. However as Duke fires his Dark Assailant at Yugi's Dark Magician, Yugi activates the Magician's Magical Hats to conceal it from Duke's monster.
As the Dark Assailant destroys one of the empty hats, Duke orders Goranzo to retreat to defend his last heart point. However as Yugi's turn begins, he activates the Dark Magician's Mystic Box power to switch places with Duke's monster, destroying it in the process. With the Dark Magician positioned in front of Duke's heart points, Yugi attacks and destroys Duke's final heart, winning him the match.
Duke is distraught to have lost his only chance of marketing Dungeon Dice Monsters, but Yugi tells him that the game is really good and that it is sure to become as popular as Duel Monsters. The others all agree that they enjoyed it and Solomon admits that even he was intrigued. Duke agrees to release Joey and Yugi then tells him that a game should be about having fun and making friends, not trying to exact a bitter revenge on someone.
As Duke and Yugi agree to become friends, Duke notices that he has received an e-mail from Industrial Illusions, agreeing to sign a contract with him. Duke apologises and tells Yugi that after duelling him he can now see how he managed to defeat Pegasus, but while Duke believes that Yugi won because he is powerful, Yugi tells him that the real power comes from having friends that support you no matter what.
Episode 50 - The Mystery Duellist: Part 1
It's another normal day at the Game Shop and, as Téa arrives to meet up with Yugi, Solomon is sweeping outside the shop. As Solomon calls out to his grandson to tell him the Téa has arrived, Yugi is upstairs in his room trying on the Millennium Puzzle which he has attached to a chain. As Yugi adjusts the way the chain is laying around his neck, the spirit of Yami comes out to talk to him, telling him that he looks really good.
Yugi isn't sure, but Yami tells him that is he wore a bracelet as well he'd be sure to get Téa to go out with him. Yugi tries to tell Yami that he doesn't fancy Téa, but his mom overhears him and wonders who he is talking to. As Yugi and Téa head off for school, Téa likes the way Yugi is wearing the Millennium Puzzle, remembering what he told her about it being the bond between the two Yugis. As the two leave the Game Shop, Yugi's mom tells Solomon that she is worried about Yugi talking to himself, but Solomon tells her not to worry.
On the way to school, Téa asks Yugi out on a date, but he is more interested in a mysterious fortune teller who beckons him over. The figure asks to look at the Millennium Puzzle and although Yugi is apprehensive he eventually hands it over, however as he does so the figure gets up and runs away down a dark passageway. As Yugi follows him, Téa heads off to school to get help from Joey and Tristan.
As Yugi makes his way down the alley he finds a series of arrows leading him to where the fortune teller has gone. Meanwhile Téa has found Bakura on the way to school and is telling him about the theft of the Puzzle. As Téa heads off for school, Yami Bakura takes control of the body and decides to help Yugi get the Puzzle back, knowing that it is Yugi's destiny to collect all seven Millennium Items. His Millennium Ring begins to tug towards the alleyway where Yugi followed the fortune teller, and as Bakura follows the arrows he changes their directions to slow down anyone else who tries to follow him.
Meanwhile Yugi has followed the arrows to an old warehouse and decides to go inside. As he does so, a light shines out showing his Millennium Puzzle hanging from a pole. Yugi demands that the figure give him back his Puzzle, but as the lights come on in the warehouse the figure tells Yugi that he will have to duel him for it. Yugi asks the guy who he is, but he ignores the question, demanding that Yugi duel him. However as Yugi agrees to the duel, Yami calls out to him from the Puzzle to warn him that he senses a dark force at work in the building, telling Yugi that it isn't safe for Yami to make himself known.
As the duel begins, Yugi plays the Celtic Guardian and his opponent retaliates with a monster in defence mode. Yugi recognises the voice of his opponent but cannot think who it belongs to and decides not to worry about that as he attacks the monster. However as the attack clears, his opponent reveals that the monster is the Cyber Pod, a monster that destroys all monsters on the field but allows each player to search the top of their deck for any monster of Level 4 or below.
As Yugi plays one monster face down, his opponent uses the Pod's effect to play Mecha Hunter and Ground Attack Bugroth. Realising that his opponent is only playing Machine-type monsters, Yugi works out that his opponent is actually Bandit Keith. But as his opponent unmasks himself he seems to be talking about Keith as if he is actually someone else. Keith, who is being controlled by a mysterious figure, explains that after being dropped into the sea after losing to Joey at Duellist Kingdom he was found by the organisation known as GURUS who rescued him.
As the duel begins once more, Keith plays the Machine King, a machine whose ATK is increased by 100 for each machine on the field. As the Machine King attacks, it destroys Yugi's Silver Fang, but Yugi retaliates by playing another monster in defence mode. Keith plays the Space Killing Machine, increasing his Machine King's ATK further before destroying Yugi's Giant Soldier of Stone. As Yugi searches for his next move, Keith taunts him in an attempt to get him to call out Yami from inside the Puzzle.
Back at school, Tristan and Joey are furious to hear that Yugi's Puzzle has been stolen and head off to help, but as they reach the school gates they are stopped by the gym teacher who wants to know where they are going. Joey claims that Yugi is really ill and that they need to go and visit him in the hospital and the teacher lets them go.
Meanwhile Yugi makes his next move, fusing Curse of Dragon and Gaia the Fierce Knight together to form Gaia the Dragon Champion. Destroying the Mecha Hunter, Yugi reduces Keith's life points to 1250 and reduces Machine King's ATK by 100. However Keith switches his two weaker machines to defence mode before playing Machine Conversion Factory, increasing the ATK and DEF of each of his monsters by 300. Attacking with the Machine King, Keith destroys Yugi's knight, reducing his life points to 1800.
As Keith goads Yugi once more in an attempt to get him to call Yami out, Yugi refuses to give up as he plays Makiou to cause Keith's machines to rust and negate the effect of the Machine Conversion Factory before playing the Summoned Skull to destroy the Machine King, reducing Keith's life points to 500. However as Yugi celebrates his success, Keith's controller decides to start playing seriously. Elsewhere Tristan, Téa and Joey have made it back to the alleyway that Yugi went down, but as they arrive the find that all the arrows have been moved around and they have no idea which way to go.
Back at the arena, Keith plays Angel's Gift, a card that allows him to draw three cards before discarding two. However rather than draw the cards from the deck, Keith palms three cards into his hand that he has hidden beneath his cloak. Sacrificing his two remaining machines, Keith uses the Ritual of Zera to summon the rare and powerful Zera onto the field and uses it to attack, destroying Yugi's Skull.
As Bakura arrives at the warehouse, he senses a dark presence inside and realises that Yugi is in trouble, however Téa and the others are still hopelessly lost thanks to Bakura switching all the arrows around. Yugi on the other hand still refuses to give up and summon Yami, but although he may seem confident he doesn't have any idea of how to defeat Keith's monster.
Episode 51 - The Mystery Duellist: Part 2
With Keith using rare monsters as well as machines, Yugi isn't sure of how he can win the duel but is determined to keep on fighting. Drawing the Koumori Dragon, he plays it in defence mode where his life points will be unharmed if it is destroyed. However as Keith begins his next turn, the person controlling Keith is determined to push Yugi to his limits in the hopes of forcing Yami to appear.
Playing Seiyaryu, Keith uses Stop Defence to force Yugi's monster into attack mode and then plays one card face down. Attacking Yugi's Dragon, Keith destroys it, reducing Yugi's life points to 400. Keith once again demands that Yami appear, but Yugi still refuses, fearing for his partner's safety. Playing a monster face down, Yugi passes back to Keith who destroys the monster with Seiyaryu. As Keith plays two cards face down, he switches Zera to defence mode and ends his turn.
Wary as to what Keith is planning, Yugi plays the Dark Magician in defence mode and then plays the Magical Hats, concealing his Magician from Keith's monsters. However as Keith begins his turn, he reveals Magic Jammer, destroying the Hats, and then plays Demon's Ritual to switch the modes of every monster on the field. As Zera attacks Yugi's Magician, Yugi counters the attack with Mirror Force, but Keith pays half of his life points to negate it using Solemn Judgement, destroying Yugi's Magician in the process.
Outside the warehouse, Bakura senses the dark presence within and uses the Millennium Ring to remove the darkness. Meanwhile with Yugi down to 100 life points and Keith resting at 250 the match could still sway either way. Playing one card face down, Yugi places a monster onto the field face down as well. As Keith's turn begins, he plays Hand Reaching Out to the Dead to destroy Yugi's monster, but Yugi activates the Living Arrow card, causing Zera to be destroyed instead.
As Bakura enters the warehouse, he senses that Keith is being controlled by another person and uses the Millennium Ring to break the link between the two, but the shock of being set free leaves Keith confused and startled. As Keith's controller tries to take control once more, Keith suspects that the Millennium Puzzle is to blame and smashes it against the side of the arena, shattering it into its separate pieces.
Bakura knocks Keith away and he and Yugi collect up the pieces of the Puzzle, but Yugi is afraid that it may take him years to reassemble all the pieces. As Yugi remains determined to reassemble the Puzzle, no matter how long it may take him, Yami Bakura is still holding one of the pieces. Bakura recalls how in ancient times the pharaoh and six priests sacrificed themselves to seal all the evil within the seven Millennium Items. Bakura wants Yugi to collect all seven items so that the evil will be released again, but he wants to be able to explore the secrets of the Puzzle until that time arrives.
Using the power of the Ring, Yami Bakura transfers a small amount of his soul into the piece of the Puzzle and then hands it back to Yugi. As Yugi gathers up all of the pieces of the Puzzle, Bakura heads off for school, however as he leaves Yugi finds that the main piece of the Puzzle is trapped on the hook that attaches it to the arena. Meanwhile Bandit Keith is coming to, still confused, and in an attempt to escape manages to set fire to the warehouse.
Elsewhere in the town, Joey, Téa and Tristan are still looking for Yugi when they spot smoke rising from a nearby building. Rushing to investigate, they find the last of the arrows that Yugi was following and realise that he must be inside. As Téa heads off to find help, Joey and Tristan try to help Yugi. As Yugi realises that he must assemble the Puzzle inside the warehouse, a race against time begins as the flames spread through the warehouse.
As Tristan and Joey break down the door to the warehouse, Keith runs out still confused and the two head over to help Yugi, who has managed to reassemble the Puzzle. However as his friends try to get him to leave, Yugi refuses to go without the Puzzle, not wanting to leave Yami behind. As Tristan grabs Yugi's deck from the arena, Joey tries to knock the hook off with a pole but it unable to dislodge it, however just as he is about to give up Yami talks to him, telling him to pull the hook out with the pole. With the hook free, Tristan and Joey have to carry out the unconscious Yugi and as they get out they find Téa waiting for them as a fire crew is tackling the blaze.
When the gang goes to visit Yugi in the hospital, Yugi explains that he felt like Yami was helping him in the fire and Joey agrees, explaining what happened to him. Tristan thinks that they're both nuts, but Téa comments that the important thing is that they are all safe. However Téa has other things on her mind as she thinks about the two Yugis, realising that Yami is not inside Yugi, but a part of him that rests in the Millennium Puzzle.
Episode 52 - The Past is Prologue
As a plane arrives at Domino Airport, a team from Egypt, including Isis Ishtar, departs from the plane where they are met by city officials who thank them for the loan of the exhibit that they have brought with them. Isis tells her welcomers that it is her pleasure to be able to bring the exhibit for the people of Domino to see.
On his way home, Yugi is deep in thought, remembering what happened to him in the fire and how he had to put the Millennium Puzzle back together in order to save Yami. As Téa spots him from the other side of the street, her friend doesn't hear her calls and carries on walking.
Over at Kaibacorp, Mokuba is watching a new broadcast about the Egyptian exhibit which includes sections of the mural of 18 dynasties. Mokuba suggests that his big brother go visit the exhibit, but Kaiba isn't interested in ancient artifacts, until he receives a telephone call from Isis Ishtar who requests that he go to the exhibit.
As he enters the museum, Kaiba is greeted by Isis, but also by a team of security guards, a fact that concerns him, however Isis insists that they are just a precaution to protect all of the ancient artifacts. Kaiba reminds Isis that she mentioned Duel Monsters on the telephone and that if it weren't for that he wouldn't have come.
Isis begins to explain how the Bureau was set up to protect ancient artifacts, but Kaiba insists that she get to the point about the rare cards that she mentioned. Isis tells Kaiba about how Pegasus created the card game after visiting Egypt, but while Kaiba already knew this Isis has a surprise in store for him as she leads him to a private room.
At home, Yugi is unsure what to say to Yami after the incident in the warehouse, but Yami emerges from the puzzle and thanks his partner for rescuing him from the flames. However as the two talk, Téa is restless and is having a bad dream about Yami and Ancient Egypt, but as what could be a prophetic dream continues she suddenly wakes up, shocked and worried.
Back at the museum, Isis directs Kaiba's attention to a collection of carvings on one of the stone murals, and as Kaiba looks at the tablet he realises that all of the carvings are of duel monsters. Isis explains that Pegasus based the game of Duel Monsters on this mural and decides that the time has come to explain to Kaiba the origin of the Shadow Games:
"The Pharaoh of Egypt gathered six priests together and they sealed away the magic of the Shadow Realm within stone tablets, however the magic possessed a group of sorcerers who became the followers of a priest who dreamed of releasing the magic back into the world."
As Kaiba tries to take in what Isis has told him so far she directs him to a second tablet on which is a carving of Yami as a pharaoh and above him is the Dark Magician. However more surprising is the image of Yugi's opponent who is none other than the priest, Kaiba, and his monster of choice, the Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
Above the two duellists are images of six Millennium Items. Isis explains that the tablet decrees that when all seven of these items are brought together something will happen, but what will happen is a mystery to everybody. Isis tells Kaiba that the battle between Yami and himself is an eternal one and that destiny has brought the two back together in this life. Kaiba is still in disbelief so Isis decides to show him proof using the power of her Millennium Tauk.
Back in Ancient Egypt, the Priest Kaiba is in battle with another priest, and as Kaiba summons a monster from the stone tablet his opponent counters with a stronger monster, and as Kaiba's monster is destroyed, so are some of his followers. As the contest continues, the Pharaoh, who looks like Yami but is masked in shadow, watches from his throne.
At home, Yugi asks Yami who he really is, but Yami has to admit that he has no memories of his past and has no idea who he truly is. Back at the museum, Isis explains to Kaiba that the name of the Pharaoh who sealed away the Shadow Magic has been mysteriously removed from all records of his reign, leaving no clues as to who he was.
As the duel continues, Priest Kaiba summons La Jinn but his opponent fuses the Winged Dragon and the Faerie Dragon to form the Kaiser Dragon, destroying Kaiba's monster and more of his followers. Kaiba calls for Isis to free him from the vision but she insists that he continue to watch. As Priest Kaiba sacrifices the Mystic Horseman and the Battle Ox, he summons the mighty Blue-Eyes White Dragon, destroying his opponent's monster and wiping out his followers.
Isis tries to explain to Kaiba that it is his destiny for him and Yugi to be rivals, but Kaiba insists that she show him the rare cards she mentioned. As Isis points to the top half of the tablet, she explains that in the Shadow Games there were three monsters with more power than any others, the Gods of Obelisk, Osiris and Ra. Pegasus designed cards based on there three monsters that would give their holder ultimate power, but the power of the three God Cards was so great that it frightened Pegasus and he requested that Isis's Bureau seal the three cards away.
The cards were sealed away, but recently a group of thieves called GURUS have stolen two of the cards and intends to find the third. Isis warns Kaiba that GURUS is a ruthless group of Rare Card Hunters who will stop at nothing on their quest for power, however she explains that the third card was not stolen and is still safe. Revealing the God of Obelisk, Isis explains that each of the cards has the power to draw duellists to it and explains that she wants Kaiba to try and draw GURUS to Domino in order to recover the lost God cards.
Kaiba agrees to hold a tournament in the city in the hopes of luring GURUS to the city, but is intrigued to know why Isis trusts him with the card. Kaiba taunts Isis's trust, asking what she would do if he kept the three cards for himself, but she insists that she trusts him with the card.
Back at home, Yugi apologises to Yami for prying into his past and promises his friend that he will share his own memories with Yami until his friend can recover his own. Meanwhile Kaiba is on his way back to Kaibacorp, intrigued and excited by the power that the God of Obelisk will bring him.
Episode 53 - Steppin' Out
As Téa prepares to head home from school, Joey and Tristan are mopping up the hall as Tristan asks Joey how his sister is coping. Joey tells Tristan that the operation is going to happen any day now, but that he isn't sure if he's going to be there. Surprised at what he hears, Tristan insists that Joey go along because he wants to go as well as he thinks that Serenity is cute.
As the two friends argue, Yugi calls out to Téa and asks her if she will go out with him over the weekend. Téa is surprised but pleased by the offer, but as Yugi explains that he wants her to go out with Yami she is slightly confused by the abruptness of the decision.
As Sunday arrives, Yami is giving Yugi style tips as he prepares for the date, not realising what his partner has set up for him. As the two head off to meet Téa, their friend is worried about how she and Yami will get on. As Yugi arrives, he switches places with Yami, leaving his two friends alone, and the two decide to go and get coffee.
As the two drink their coffee, Téa suggests that they could go to the museum and see the exhibit, explaining that one of the artifacts shown in the local paper had a symbol on it that was similar to the one on the Millennium Puzzle. As Téa worries that she may have upset Yami with her suggestion, he explains that he is worried that the paths that he and Yugi must face are going to be difficult, but Téa explains that everyone has a hard time trying to fulfil their ambition and explains to her friend about how she wants to become a dancer.
Finishing their drinks, the two tour the town, visiting the music store and the park, but when Yami finds a new card shop has opened he is eager to check it out and, buying a pack of cards, is pleased to find the Hand Sealing Sword of Light inside the pack. As Téa realises that Yami is happiest when he is duelling, she decides to take him to the arcade, but as they arrive everybody is gathered around the dance machine where the talented but obnoxious Step Johnny is showing off his skills.
Determined to prove her worth on the game, Téa challenges Johnny to a head-to-head dance contest, but as the music begins and the two both dance flawlessly Johnny tries to trip Téa up but only ends up falling himself. As Téa wins the contest, everyone is impressed, even Yami.
Later that day, Téa and Yami are looking out over the beach as Yami realises that a dream is never worth giving up on. He explains to Téa how he longs to find his memories, but worries that when he finds them he and Yugi will become separated. However as the two continue to talk, Step Johnny arrives and challenges Téa to another contest, but this time he wants to play her at Duel Monsters. As Téa is stunned by the challenge, Yami accepts the duel in her place, but Johnny warns him that if he loses he must stay away from Taya forever.
As the duel begins, Yami is determined to teach Johnny a lesson about respect for dancing, and as Johnny plays the Sound Maiden Yugi easily defeats it with the Celtic Guardian, reducing Johnny's life points to 1800. As Johnny plays his second monster, the Water Dancer, Yami realises that Johnny is using fan cards, not seriously intended for duelling but more a set of cards for collectors who like music and dancing.
However as Yami passes play back to Johnny, his opponent plays the Spirit of the Harp in defence more before increasing it's DEF by 500 through the power of the Soothing Song. Surprised by the play, Yugi plays Curse of Dragon, destroying the Water Dancer and reducing Johnny's life points to 1200, but Johnny retaliates with the Witch of the Black Forest, fusing it with his Lady of Faith to form the Musician King.
As the Musician King attacks, Yugi's Guardian is destroyed, reducing his life points to 1650, and as Johnny ends his turn he plays one card face down. Yugi attacks the Musician King with his Curse of Dragon, but as he does so Johnny reveals his Magic Metal Force, transforming his monster into the Heavy Metal King, destroying Yugi's Dragon.
As Yugi plays the Giant Soldier of Stone in defence mode, the power of Magic Metal Force increases the Heavy Metal King's ATK to 2700 and Johnny destroys Yugi's Soldier. Shocked by the King's ability to increase it's ATK for each monster that it has destroyed, Yugi realises that he can still win the match as he summons the Dark Magician and orders it to attack.
As Johnny reminds Yugi of his Metal Force, Yugi informs his opponent that the Trap's powers only work when Johnny is attacking, not when he is being attacked. As the Heavy Metal King is destroyed, Johnny is shocked to realise just who his opponent is and surrenders, realising that there is no way for him to win.
As Johnny tries to leave the arena, Téa confronts him, telling him not to give up on his dreams. Johnny explains that he gave up trying to become a dancer when he failed an audition, but Téa tells him that he shouldn't have given up after just one try and that if he keeps on trying then he will eventually succeed.
As Johnny promises to keep trying, Téa and Yami decide to visit the museum, but when the two arrive Yami is apprehensive about going in, not sure if he is ready to have his questions answered. But with Téa by his side Yami has the confidence he needs to find out who he really is.
Episode 54 - "This City Will Be Battle City"
Deciding that the time has come to find out who he really is, Yami enters the museum, with Téa by his side, in the hopes that he will find the answers he seeks. As the two walk around the exhibit, Yami spots a cordoned off area that leads down to a sub-level of the museum and decides to investigate.
Reaching the bottom of the stairs, Téa is confused to see the stone tablet with the carving of Yami as the Egyptian Pharaoh, but Yami is relieved to finally know who he is, the soul of the pharaoh. As the two study the tablet Isis arrives and explains that she knew that the two were coming because her Millennium Item, the Millennium Tauk, had shown it to her.
As Isis and Yami talk, she explains that Yami must gather all seven Millennium Items together in order to restore his memories. However Isis warns Yami that somebody else is also after all of the items and that Yami will have to face this new adversary before he can recover his memories. As Isis tells Yami to go to the plaza where his quest to recover his memories will begin, Yami wants to know why his soul was sealed inside the Puzzle, but is distracted when he spots the carving of Kaiba on the tablet.
Elsewhere, at Kaibacorp's Research and Development department, Kaiba is preparing to run the final test on his new Duel Disk system. As the systems prepare, Kaiba is proud of his new invention, a version of the disk that doesn't require throwing to project the images but instead uses projectors that are released when the duel begins. As the disks are used, all of the data is processed instantly using Kaibacorp's satellite systems, making it possible to duel absolutely anywhere.
As the computer system launches, the Robo Duellist's challenge level is set to maximum, a challenge that will give even Kaiba a run for his money, and a perfect chance for him to try out the God of Obelisk. As Kaiba inserts his deck into the disk, the life points are set to 4000 and the projectors are released to the sides.
As both Kaiba and the Robo Duellist draw their opening hands, the Robo plays a monster face down before passing play back to Kaiba, who plays one card face down before summoning the Battle Ox. But as Kaiba's monster attacks the Robo reveals the Cyber Pod, destroying both monsters but allowing each player to search the top five cards of their deck for any monsters of level four or below.
As the Robo plays two monsters face down in defence mode, Kaiba summons four monsters, however as his opponent takes it's next turn it tributes the two monsters in order to summon the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Kaiba remembers how the new rules mean that tributes must be paid to summon a high-level monster like the Blue-Eyes, and is impressed at the way the Robo used the Cyber Pod to set up the tribute.
Sacrificing the Hitotsu-Me Giant, Kaiba summons the Dragon Slayer, hoping to use it to destroy the Blue-Eyes, but as the Robo's turn begins it plays a card face down before summoning the Lord of Dragons, preventing all destructive attacks from affecting dragons on the field. As Kaiba switches his monsters to defence mode, Mokuba is worried about how his big brother can win as the Robo uses the Flute of Summon Dragon to play the other two Blue-Eyes, before fusing them to form the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon.
As Mokuba learns that the disks are set to inflict combat damage, he is worried that his brother could get seriously hurt, but fortunately the new rules state that a fused monster must wait a turn before attacking. Face-to-face with the powerful monster, Kaiba senses the fear that Yugi must have felt going up against the Ultimate Dragon, but as he puts his trust in his cards he successfully draws the card that will win him the match, God of Obelisk.
Sacrificing three monsters as tributes, Kaiba summons the God onto the field, but as he sacrifices two more monsters to increase the ATK of the God, the computer systems begin to overload. Attacking with the powerful beast, Kaiba destroys the Blue-Eyes and wins the duel, but although he is amazed at the power of just one God card, the power it displayed makes him eager to reclaim the other two.
As Yami and Téa arrive at the plaza, Yami asks Téa not to tell Yugi what has happened and she agrees, but as the two continue to talk Yugi senses a strange aura to the plaza. As he prepares to mention the fact to Téa, Mai arrives, teasing Yami and Téa because she realises that they are on a date together.
As Mai finishes teasing the pair, Yami asks Mai why she is here and she is surprised to learn that Yami is at the plaza even though he hasn't heard the news. Mai explains that news has been leaked over the internet that something will be happening at the plaza and explains that that is why so many duellists are about.
As Yami looks around the plaza he spots a number of familiar faces; Rex Raptor, Weevil Underwood and Mako Tsunami and Mai catches sight of Esper Roba, another talented duellist. As the duellists scout out the rest of the competition, all of the video screens turn on as Seto Kaiba prepares to make an announcement to the crowd.
Kaiba explains that that in a week's time a new tournament will take over the city and that each duellist taking part needs a new Duel Disk system and a deck of 40 cards that includes a number of rare cards. As a helicopter arrives in the plaza, Kaiba gets out and is pleased to see that Yugi has turned up. He announces that the duels will use a new set of rules and that the winner of each duel will have the right to claim one rare card from the loser. Shocked to hear the news, both Mai and Yami realise that this tournament will be nothing like Duellist Kingdom.
As Kaiba announces that the city will become Battle City, a robed figure is watching the proceedings from an unknown location. Realising that all the best duellists will be in one place, Malik decides that the time has come to put things into action and he orders the Rare Card Hunters to make their way to the tournament to claim the pick of the cards.
